Honest comparison

Kounts Care vs Greg

Greg is the friendliest free plant app on the App Store, with a real community around it. Here is where it fits and where it does not.

In review with Apple · iPhone, iOS 26 · Five profiles free when it lands

Greg has a good reputation for a good reason: the free tier is generous by the standards of this category, the watering guidance takes your actual location and pot size into account, and there is a community of people who will tell you what is wrong with your plant. It runs on a freemium model with a paid tier for the reminder and logging features, and it is a plant app in the pure sense. Kounts Care overlaps on the daily watering list, and diverges completely on everything to do with animals and households.

The short answer

Choose Greg if you want a well-liked free plant app with a community attached and no pets in the picture. Choose Kounts Care if the household has animals in it, if more than one person shares the care, or if you want a single list covering the plants and the dog.

Where each option is stronger

Where Kounts Care is stronger

The animals count as things to look after

Greg is a plant app and does not pretend otherwise. If your mental load includes when the dog is due for a flea treatment and whether anyone walked her, Kounts Care puts that on the same list as the watering, with the same counters and the same calendar.

More than one person can do the care

Household sharing over iCloud means the tasks are the household's rather than one person's. Ticking something off removes it for everybody and records who did it, which is the specific thing that stops the same plant being watered twice.

No account, and nothing on our servers

Kounts Care has no sign-up screen because there is no back end. Data lives on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud, and sharing runs through Apple's CloudKit rather than through us.

Where Greg is the better choice

The community is genuinely useful

Being able to post a photo of a struggling plant and get answers from people who have kept the same species is real value, and Kounts Care has nothing like it. If you are learning, that is worth a lot.

A well-regarded free tier

Greg's free offering has a good reputation, and for someone with a lot of plants and no pets it may cover everything they need. Kounts Care's free tier stops at five profiles.

Android

Greg is on Android. Kounts Care is iPhone only, and needs iOS 26.

Questions people actually ask

Is Greg free?

It runs a freemium model with a generous free tier, and features including watering and fertilising notifications sit in its paid membership. Its exact pricing is not clearly published outside the app, so check the App Store listing for current terms. Checked August 2026.

Which is better for a large plant collection?

If it is plants only and the collection is big, Greg's free tier and its community are a strong combination. Kounts Care's free tier caps at five profiles, so a large collection means Premium at $19.99 a year or $34.99 once.

Does Kounts Care have a community?

No, and that is deliberate. It is a private app with no account and no server holding your data, which rules out a social layer. If community advice is what you want, Greg is the better answer.

Can I share my plants with my partner?

In Kounts Care, yes: household sharing over iCloud puts everyone on the same list, and there is a sitter link for when you are away. Greg is built around one person's collection.
